MODULE 1: 152 HOURS
THE KEY ESSENTIALS OF MAKEUP & HAIR ARTISTRY
From pretty beauty basics to dazzling, dramatic evening looks; starting with an intro to hygiene which is so important working with clients, followed by skin analysis, skin preparation and how to choose and work with the right products for all ages. Colour Theory will help you choose colour for clients, and allow you to bring out eye & skin colour and teach you how to cover pesky little flaws. All types of foundations will be demonstrated, compared and their purposes and application methods explored. Camouflaging skin problems and creating a fresh, rested and radiant skin for all skin tones, types and ages, will be one of your expert moves upon completion of this course. You will learn to layer colour and products like a pro; achieving long lasting results that clients will love! Corrective techniques for the eyes, lips, cheeks, and brows will be a focus of this course, and will allow you to understand how to correct facial asymmetry to balance your client's features. The sequence of the classes is perfect in that you can work on perfecting techniques as you go along. Skin is first, followed by bronzing, blushing and highlighting, topped off with soft, clean eyes. Once your pretty looks are kicking, you'll be ready to introduce sculpting techniques that will help you get cheekbones to die for! Finish off the eyes with one of the smouldering eye designs that you will learn, add some lashes and you will bring out your client's inner diva! Amongst all of these great makeup techniques, you will also be learning the art of creating gorgeous hair. What's a great face with gorgeous locks to match?! This course will bring the art of makeup & hair together for you. Wash, blow dry, rollers, curling, straightening is a few of the techniques that you'll learn as well as casual up dos. The course ends with mature makeup, client consultation, ins & out's of working retail & how to market yourself.
MODULE 2: 176 HOURS
EDITORIAL MAKEUP & HAIR TECHNIQUES FOR THE FASHION INDUSTRY
This module begins with the introduction of industry accepted fashion looks appropriate for the covers of a variety of magazines such as Vogue, Sports Illustrated, Elle, Self and Cosmopolitan, just to name a few. You will learn how to create extremely natural, natural, soft glamour and glamour "cover looks" that are dewy, semi matte and matte. This course will then teach you how to achieve more edgy, editorial, high fashion and fantasy looks for more fashion forward, North American and European Magazines such as Zink and Photo. The looks you will learn include a bronzed glamour makeup style and a porcelain edgy makeup. You will learn how to block out eyebrows to create extreme looks for high fashion, editorial magazine stories or spreads. This part of the program will also focus on the makeup styles and trends from the past, such as the Egyptian, Elizabethan and Geisha styles, as well as the 1920's to the 1990's, and how makeup artists reinterpret the trends of the past to create the editorial makeup looks that you see in today's magazines. You will also learn how to create spring and fall runway looks and how to work backstage at a runway show both as an assistant and as the head of the show, or what the industry refers to as the "key makeup" artist. Along with all the exciting makeup looks, you will learn the hairstyling techniques to go with them. Fashion & Editorial makeup is about creating a concept that will bring the photographer's and stylist's vision to life. It's about working with a team of professionals to create a fashion story. Hair techniques will include sculpting into a variety of designs and working with hair pieces so that you can take hair to another realm. The end of the course will focus on bringing what you've learned in makeup and hair together, and creating total concepts appropriate for the fashion industry. You will also complete a photo-shoot at a studio with a professional model and fashion photographer.
MODULE 3: HOURS 68
THE UNIVERSAL ART OF BRIDAL MAKEUP & HAIR
The Universal Art of Bridal Makeup & Hair focuses on providing a makeup artist with the skill to apply modern red carpet ready bridal makeup for the discerning North American bride as well as culturally appropriate bridal makeup for various ethnic groups. This course addresses the fact that Canada and the USA are multicultural nations and the clientele that a bridal artist will develop will most certainly reflect that statistic. Techniques that you will learn as part of this course will include sculpting which brings out bone structure and adds definition to facial features; a plus for the camera! A primary focus will be on layering makeup products for the skin, eyes, lips and cheeks which will create a long lasting finish and something a bride will most certainly appreciate! A variety of traditional North American eye designs, makeup styles and colour palettes will be explored as will modern adaptations for this market. You will have the opportunity in class to design looks for the Asian, European, Middle Eastern and South Asian bride, and to also work with colour palettes that reflect the tastes of these cultures. The effects that these following factors have on makeup will be discussed: lighting, whether exterior or interior, time of day, whether morning, afternoon or evening, and the time of year. You will also receive an overview of typical do's and don'ts for applying makeup for the camera. Lastly, you will also learn which type of products and which brands provide smudge-proof wear and durability, create flawless, radiant skin and photograph well. We haven't forgotten the hair...the finishing touch to a perfect face. In this course, you will be learning how to do classic and modern bridal up-do. AND...we saved the best for last! You will have a Q&A period with either industry professionals, reps from makeup lines and/or marketing experts who will guide you in the right direction and help you to build a strong & successful bridal business.
